Proof of Real Love
By Angie Lewis

Where can we find real love – the kind of love that does not ask
for anything in return – the kind of love that loves without
conditions and stipulations? Is there such love in our world?
The bible tells us throughout scripture what real love is, and
my heart tells me what real love is through God’s love for us.
We know what real love is, but more important where is it?
Real love comes to us through our relationship with God and His
Son Jesus Christ. If we have a personal relationship with Him we
will feel God’s love in our life. We will come to know what it
feels like to be loved with the wonderful blessings of our Lord
and Savior, Jesus Christ. God shows us how much He loves us
through His blessings.
God’s blessings are proof that He loves us! In fact the greatest
blessing we have been given is that of His Son Jesus Christ –
the Redeemer of the world. We have been presented with the
chance to turn our sinful lives around and be removed from the
slavery of sin and redeemed from death. What better proof of
love is there?
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,
that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal
life.
John 3:16
We can show God how much we love Him through the relationship we
cultivate with Him. When we communicate with God through prayer
we can tell Him exactly how we feel on any given day. Some days
God may be our father because we did something we know we should
not have. Some days God may be our brother or sister because we
just need someone to talk to. On other days God may be our
friend because we need someone to pour our heart out to.
God is always there to listen to us and we should always be
there to talk to Him. We are the creators of the relationship we
have with Him. It is up to us how that relationship will be. We
do not share our relationship with God with anyone else – it is
personal, much like the relationship we share with our spouse.
This relationship is what gives us faith to do His will in our
lives. The closer we are to God in our heart and mind the more
we will trust in Him as the Overseer of our lives.
We show just how much we love God through our actions. Are we
willing to follow Him even if we don’t feel like it? Are we
trusting in what God says for our life? Are we telling others
about our love for God and the abundance we have been given? Are
we telling people about the glorious blessings that God has
poured out to us? These are ways in which we show God how much
we love Him.
"Because he loved me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will
protect him, for he acknowledges my name”.
Psalm 91:14
God does let us know in order for us to be with Him in the
eternal we must throw off the old selfish ways, and follow Him.
But, even if we decide not to do that, and we continue to go our
own selfish way, He would still love us! Wow! But who would want
to do that? Who would continue to walk the ego path if they knew
what God had planned for them in the eternal – the Crown of
Life?
God’s love for us is so overwhelming powerful that He has
blessed us with His kingdom right here on earth now! The kingdom
of God is within you. He teaches and guides us on how to live a
righteous life and be all that we can be for Him and for others
in His kingdom.
The whole purpose of the bible is about God sharing His love
with us. He instructs us in His ways because they are the right
ways. Compare that with how a dad loves his son or daughter.
Because a dad loves his children he may discipline and instruct
them in such a way so as to keep them safe and unharmed. What
would happen if the dad allowed his children to do whatever they
wanted? They wouldn’t have any direction and know right from
wrong.
It is the same way for us as God’s children. He is our Father
and if we follow His commands we will be blessed in this life
and in the life to come. The simplistic statement that “God is
Love” is only simplistic to those who do not understand the
concept of real and true love. God brought Love – God is Love –
Love was brought through God for our salvation. Love is
Salvation.
And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is
love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him.
1 John 4:16
